The Ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has acknowledged the formation of ‘new’ vigilante group in the region christened Eagle Forces.
The Eastern Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Umar Bodinga explains that the vigilante group has been providing internal security for the party.
According to him, the formation of this vigilante group is to augment efforts of the insufficient Police personnel assigned to the party during political activities.
“I am telling you in Eastern region we have a vigilante group called Eagle Forces, yes, they are our party members who provide internal security for the party, during our delegate conference you saw them wearing black lacost with whitish inscription Eagle Forces at their back. During our political activities, they provide security. You will see many cars parked while sometimes pick pockets too may take advantage so they provide security for all these. The police are insufficient to provide maximum security for the party”. The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers, CODEO, has intensified campaign for the disbandment of Vigilante groups due to the threat their activities posses to the security of the country.
However speaking Friday on Radio 1 morning Political program dubbed Susubiribi, hosted by Captain Kofi Owusu, the regional 1st Vice Chairman said the party cannot disband its vigilante groups because of the crucial role they play in the provision of internal security for the party.
Alhaji Bodinga said members of the vigilante group are party members who are committed and trustworthy hence the party fills comfortable working with them for security exercises of the party.
He also declared his intention to contest the Regional Chairmanship position in the coming regional election.
Alhaji Boding has served in various positions at the regional and constituency level in his entire political career having also been an assembly member.
He has served as Eastern regional Vice Chairman for 12 years, served as 2nd Vice Chairman for a period of 4years and currently serving the party as 1st Vice Chairman for the second term.
Alhaji Bodinga who has been accoladed “The Field Marshall ” by supporters of the party for his hard work was the operational commander for the infamous two bye -Elections in Akwatia and Atiwa constituencies in the Region.
He has been very instrumental pillar in reorganization and a strategic campaign of the party in the Eastern region.
Whenever the NPP goes to the opposition, he is one of the few visible Regional Executives who continue to work throughout the constituencies and attend radio programs to propagate the vision of the party.
