The Regional elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which was held across the country recently, was characterized by vote- buying, a former NDC Central Regional Chairman Allotey Jacobs has alleged.

He said the NDC delegates were mostly influenced by money and other sumptuous gifts hence they voted for ‘rich’ people at the expense of candidates that have the capacity to work for the NDC to recapture power.

According to him, prior to the recent regional elections, reports of vote-buying were alien to the NDC; he expressed extreme sadness about how vote-buying had suddenly become the order of the day in the largest opposition political party.

“The NDC’s recently organized regional election to elect our next batch of regional executives to serve the party was characterized by vote-buying or what can also be referred to as ‘Moneytics’. For the first time in the history of the NDC, delegates received money and other items before casting their ballot and that is not a good sign for the NDC as a democratic political party”, he disclosed.

He stated that the NDC was rapidly losing its internal democratic principles. Therefore, he lauded former President Jerry John Rawlings, who is also the NDC founder, for warning the aspirants not to campaign in his name.

Allotey Jacobs, who is noted for being bold in expressing his views on issues about his party and the country, stressed the need for the various candidates to campaign on what they could do to transform the party.

Touching on the general secretary polls, he openly declared his support for Koku Anyidoho, who is battling it out with the incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM, he asserted that the NDC presently needs someone like Koku Anyidoho to help transform the party and also make it winsome ahead of the 2020 polls, which is barely two years away.

“If the delegates want the NDC to win the 2020 polls then they should vote for Koku Anyidoho but if they want the party to lose again then they should vote for Asiedu Nketia”, he stated.
