A video has emerged of the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, confronting a handcuffed man and claiming responsibility for his arrest in connection with the recent deadly clashes in New Winneba.

In the video on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on September 4, 2026, the MP is seen addressing the suspect directly, accusing him of fleeing Accra after killing a man named Abeiku.

“I told you and your boys that in Accra, I’m the Mafia boss. I told you I would catch you. You killed Abeiku and ran away to come here, and you see, I have come to catch you. We are the real owners of Accra, so let this be a lesson to your boys that wherever they are hiding, I will single-handedly come and catch all of them,” A Plus said.

The confrontation relates to violent clashes on September 1, 2026, between residents of Gomoa communities, including Gomoa Oguaakrom, and those in New Winneba in the Effutu area of Ghana’s Central Region.

A-Plus has previously spoken publicly about the incident. He has described the violence as driven by individuals acting as landguards who allegedly seized control of lands he maintains belong to Gomoa people, rather than a purely ethnic conflict between Gomoa and Effutu groups.

He has also alleged that police used excessive force during the events, claiming officers killed two people and injured others, and has warned authorities to ensure justice or face community action.

The dispute centres on a long-standing land ownership conflict. Police reported that approximately 300 people armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks entered New Winneba around 10:40 a.m., leading to attacks on residents and property damage.

Official accounts confirmed three deaths and about 15 injuries, including a police officer who was treated at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.

Security forces recovered a locally manufactured single-barrel gun and an empty cartridge from the scene.

Central Regional Police subsequently arrested six suspects: Kweku Kakraba (52), Arko Thomas (19), Samuel Tulasi (19), Samuel Gyasi (22), Emmanuel Okyere (22) and Seth Osei (22). Additional personnel and armoured vehicles were deployed to restore order.
