A tense confrontation unfolded in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency when the Member of Parliament, Yakubu Mohammed, confronted a group of Chinese nationals allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities in the area.

In a video circulating online, the visibly angry MP is heard shouting, “Move your car right now. Do you want to spoil my water? Do you spoil water in China? If you come again, I will arrest you,” as he ordered the individuals to leave the site immediately.

Yakubu Mohammed, who has been vocal about the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, warned the Chinese nationals that he would ensure their arrest if they returned to the area.

He stressed that the constituency would not tolerate activities that threaten its water bodies, farmlands, and livelihoods.

The confrontation has sparked discussions on social media, with many Ghanaians praising the MP for taking a firm stand against galamsey operators, while others questioned why foreign nationals continue to gain access to mining sites despite government crackdowns.

The MP has vowed to intensify monitoring efforts and collaborate with security agencies to protect the area from further degradation.

The MP was also heard in the video accusing the New Patriotic Party in the constituency of working with the Chinese nationals, adding that they would later turn around claiming it is the National Democratic Congress government that is allowing the illegal mining in the area.
