The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has stated that the commission does not have the power to determine the outcome of elections in the country.

According to her, the authority to elect a president in the country lies with the citizens and not with the EC.

At a press briefing in Accra on Friday, September 20, 2024, she stated that the power to choose the president lies exclusively in the hands of Ghanaians.

“We as a commission do not have the power to determine who wins elections. It is not in our control to determine the outcome of the election. The power indeed lies with the good people of our dear country. It is only the citizens and the citizens alone who can determine who should lead them, not the EC. It is the candidate who is given the power to lead them by the citizens who will be declared president of the Republic of Ghana by the EC come December 7 2024," she explained.
