The police department in the Northern Regional township of Karaga says it does not have the needed logistics to clamp down perpetrators of ongoing violence there.

There have been reports of how some irate youth of the NPP stormed a police station to free two of their colleagues arrested for engaging in a public fight over the recruitment of some youths into the security apparatus there.

Public relations officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional police service, ASP Mohammed Tanko, the current challenge facing them is the gaping deficit in police to civilian ratio in the Northern Region - a development which made the fight against crime lost.

“We have few men at the police station, the boys numbered over 100,” he explained in an interview with the media.

These concerns raised by the police in the Northern Regional police follow bouts of violence erupted by vigilante groups belonging to the incumbent NPP party. Meanwhile, the government has revealed plans to ensure that these cases of attacks are brought under strict control.
