United States (US) Ambassador Robert Porter Jackson has denied allegations of US authorities mistreatment of Ghanaian deportees.

“I flatly reject the idea that we treated people inhumanely. On the contrary I think we treated them as best as possible given the fact that they refused to leave the United States voluntarily,” he told the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament Thursday.

The US Embassy was invited earlier today over the deportation of some 63 Ghanaians who reports largely suggested that they were manhandled by authorities in their deportation from the US.

Some Human Rights activists have also condemned the US officials for the poor handling of the deportees on a Chartered flight to Ghana.

But Mr. Robert Jackson responding to the issues said:”I do not consider the conditions in which they were returned inhumane. They were fed, they had some freedom of movement on the flight. It was restricted for the safety of everyone on board but it is not as if they were chained to their seats and there will be additional deportations…”

This notwithstanding he said there were tens of thousands of Ghanaians residing in the United States legally and contributing to the country.
