We don't act on people's feelings - Peace Council

The National Peace Council says it will not be compelled to react to recent happenings in the country.

Leaders of the council say they have been working behind the scenes to sustain the peace of the country.

The council has been accused of bias in dealing with persons accused of incitement.

On Monday, the NPP group, Young Patriots issued a statement saying the council acts only when opposition supporters express such sentiments.

The group said it will be forced to act if the council does not condemn recent comments by the president and some members of the Coalition of Ghanaian Voters in connection with the election petition case.

But the chairman of the national peace council Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante in an interview with XYZ News said his outfit won’t be coerced into discharging its duties.

He said the criticisms from various quarters only signal the relevance of the council.

“The fact that everybody is talking about the Peace Counsel itself tells you that it is relevant…but we do not operate on the basis of people’s feelings.

“We have being given a mandate, and we would try and do the best that we can and fulfill that mandate” Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante said.
