We knew there were 'serious challenges' in 2016 - Koku Anyidoho

We knew we were going to face challenges in run up to the 2016 elections, we knew a lot of things didn't go well with our governance, a Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has said.

The man who made headlines with his ‘’We are in a comfortable lead’’ comments said the NDC was optimistic of victory despite knowing very well that there were a lot of challenges.

‘’We were aware of the serious challenges. In the Volta region, the Eastern corridor road was a major challenge for the NDC,’’ he added.

According to him, the NDC was hoping to win the 2016 general elections so they will resolve the challenges however, they lost to the current New Patriotic Party (NPP).

‘’The feedback that was coming was worrisome but we thought everything was going to be alright however, we lost the elections. Ghanaians had a different view and they were not waiting for us to win before resolving these challenges so they voted us out. The election defeat is now in the past.’’

Koku Anyidoho noted that should an election be held today, the NPP will lose because of the challenges on the ground President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo secured a stunning victory over his National Democratic Congress (NDC) rival and incumbent president, John Mahama, in an election that involved 15 million voters.

In a press conference held at about 8:47 pm on Friday December 9, 2016, the Electoral Commission chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei, declared Akufo-Addo the president-elect of Ghana.

“On the basis of the foregoing figures and by the power vested in my as the Electoral Commissioner of and the Returning Officer of the presidential election, it is my duty and privilege to declare Nana Akufo-Addo as the president-elect of Ghana,” she said.
