Kwesi Pratt Jnr., the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper has described the recent utility price hike by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) as an “easy, lazy, option”.

Speaking on Adom Fm, the senior journalist questioned why experts are employed in these service providers in order for them to solve problems only for them to always take the easy way out by increasing tariffs arbitrarily.

According to Mr. Pratt, people in places of authority are refusing to brain storm to resolve the many problems confronting the nation but what has become the norm is “the shameful act of increasing tariffs when something goes wrong”.

“if that is the case, why do we then employ experts? Because if we only going to limit ourselves to tariff adjustment, then anyone can be the managing director of ECG. We can get anyone on the streets to perform this duty perfectly because he would increase tariffs at the least problem he would encounter”.

“…and VRA, what do need experts at VRA for? We can go to Mallam-Atta Market and get someone there, whether he is educated or not. Whether he is an engineer or not, whether he is creative or not, he can be placed at the helms of affairs at the VRA because when he encounters any problem, he would increase prices. He would do it perfectly. The increment is a very easy, lazy option,” he said.
