The head pastor of Believers House of Worship International, Rev Abraham Lamptey, has praised former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his acceptance of defeat in the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, January 12, 2025, the pastor credited the former vice president, who was the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election, for the peace in the country after the election.

He indicated that even though Dr. Bawumia lost the election, he deserves credit for accepting defeat because not every person would have done that.

“Gratitude goes to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. You must be spiritual to honour that man. You must be spiritual to respect that man. You need to be spiritual to give thanks to God for blessing Ghana with a man like Dr. Mahamudu, you won't understand. It is easy to think that he was defeated, it is not everyone that accepts defeat. It is not everyone that even honours their predecessors," he said.

“So Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, my name is Abraham Lamptey. I know you know me. And my greetings to Hajia Samira. Thank you for hearing the voice of God and giving Ghana the peace we have today. Thank you, sir,” he said.

The pastor added that Bawumia's action shows that he has the favour of God and has won him more love and respect.

“Some of us, we know that you hear God. What you did is a sign of someone who heard God. Many will not agree with you. But if God is on your side, that's okay. And what you did earned you more respect and more love than you ever thought. Thank you.”

The former vice president conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election to the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), now President John Dramani Mahama, less than 12 hours after the election.

Dr. Bawumia has stated that his decision to concede defeat was to calm down tension in order to preserve the country’s peace.
