Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has assured the country of the judiciary’s preparedness to resolve all election-related disputes before and after the 7 December polls.

The Chief Justice on Wednesday, 16 November, launched the 3rd edition of the Election Adjudication Manual sponsored by UK Aid, which will serve as a guide to lawyers and judges in resolving election disputes.

According to Mrs Wood, the manual will help reduce violence and tension after the December polls.

“The manual is not meant for the exclusive view of lawyers. I encourage all actors and stakeholders of the electoral process, including the media, to acquaint themselves with its content,” she stated, adding: “The knowledge of these laws would lead to even more timely dispensation of justice in all election-related cases and petitions and, perhaps, even more importantly, help to avoid or reduce the tension and violence that has come to be associated with African elections.”

Meanwhile, the United States of America and the United Kingdom have threatened to deny or revoke visas of violent politicians. The two power houses including the European Union, have called for peace before, during and after the election.
