The Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Halid Abdul-Rauf says the party will work hard to win the 2020 general elections to be able to rescue Ghanaians from the “shackles” of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said internal wrangling was one of the main causes of the party’s woeful defeat in the elections adding that “the rank and file of the party have reunited to help recapture power from the NPP”.
Addressing delegates at the Northern Regional delegates Congress of the party in Tamale, Mr. Abdul-Rauf urged party members to use internal mechanisms to resolve their differences rather than resorting to court.
“All party members who took the party to court before and after the 2020 elections have been defeated, and we urged all members to abide by the constitution and use structures to resolve their differences,” he said.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Constituency, Mr. Alhassan Suhuyini urged both delegates and aspirants to put aside their interest and conduct themselves in order not destroy the fortunes of the party.
A total of 1,100 delegates have converged at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale today to cast their votes for 71 aspirants for the various positions in the regional delegates elections.
The theme for the Congress was 'Rebranding for Victory 2020'.
