We won't interfere in December polls - Amissah-Arthur

Government has pledged to respect the will of Ghanaians after the 2016 elections scheduled for December 7.

According to Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not interfere in the affairs of state institutions in the run-up to the elections.

He noted that government would put in the necessary measures to ensure free and fair polls.

Mr Amissah-Arthur said this on Friday October 7 at a meeting organised by the Socialist International Africa Committee in Accra under the theme, ‘Advancing Our Social Democratic Vision for Africa’.

“As the governing party, we pledge to do nothing to thwart the will of the people of Ghana. We will respect the rules of engagement without interfering in the work of state institutions that are assigned responsibility to ensure free and fair elections,” he stated.

Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed confidence that the NDC would retain power after the polls but said “winning election is not our only objective”, adding: “Our responsibility is to use that victory to pursue the goal of creating wealth, eliminating poverty and inequality, and creating opportunity for all to achieve the potential – that is our commitment.”
