Political Science Lecturer with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng has described the members of Public Procurement Authority (PPA) board as a bunch of disgraceful beings.

This comes after the authority’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adjenim Boateng Adjei was suspended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and referred to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) as well as the office of the Special Prosecutor over conflict of interest and corruption allegations.

Commenting on the issue the political scientist said “Members should bow their heads in shame; The Board is terribly weak”, he described backing calls the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to also suspend the entire Board with immediate effect.

According to Dr. Amakye Boateng, if President Akufo-Addo is able to suspend the Board as done to Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei as CEO, it will serve the government’s interest for many obvious reasons

“This will be a nice opportunity to tell Ghanaians you really want to fight corruption. You repeatedly said you want to be President and what does it mean?” the political social commentator spoke on Nhyira FM’s mornng show hosted by Papa Nyameke during a telephone interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Background

In a documentary by Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azuri Awuni titled “Contracts for Sale” aired last Wednesday the PPA Boss was said to have established his own company under the name Talent Discovery Limited incorporated in June 2017 which has won a number of government contracts through restrictive tendering.

From excerpts of the 46-minute documentary, it also emerged that the company was engaged in the sale of contracts and was ready to sell one worth a ¢22.3 million to a non-existent entity during undercover investigation.

The Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have confirmed that the contracts being sold by Talent Discovery Limited are authentic contracts that have been awarded to the company. The company has had contracts with the Ghana Water Company (GWCL), Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
