Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw
Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has recounted why he refused to be trained by the then Attorney General, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when he was called to the Bar in 2000.
According to Ampaw, after receiving awards during the call to the Bar, Akufo-Addo held his hands and offered to train him.
However, Ampaw said he refused with the single reason that he does not like politicians.
Speaking on the Delay Show, he explained that "I went to Ghana Law School, and I was the best student. I won about three or four prizes in the year 2000, and Akufo-Addo discovered me. It was at the time Kufuor won the elections, and Akufo-Addo was the Attorney General. So, I was receiving the awards when Akufo-Addo held my hands and asked me who I was. Not knowing he knows my dad, the late G.D. Ampaw. My dad was a lawyer and a Minister of Health during the Busia regime. My father was radical. The whole of Akyem-Abukwa, he never lost a case.
"So, when Akufo-Addo mentioned my dad's name, he wanted to find out if I am his son. He was an MP for Akyem-Abukwa when Akufo-Addo was a child, and his father was a ceremonial president. That's how he knew my father. He offered to train me, but I declined because I don't like politicians," he stated.
Maurice Ampaw also boasted about his track-record, describing himself as one of the most formidable lawyers in the country, boasting an impressive track record of winning over 300 cases.
"I am one of the strongest lawyers in this country. The things I have accomplished here, no lawyer born of a woman can match. The fights I take on are the ones others shy away from. I have also made a mark on social media. I have won over 300 cases, including human rights cases for clients like Chairman Wontumi, Sarah Koblah and among others," Ampaw shared.
