Social media has been buzzing with mixed reactions after the head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, announced that Mohammed Kudus will captain the team against Sudan in the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

The coach believes that Kudus’ outstanding performances for the Black Stars, coupled with his leadership qualities, will help the team in their game against Sudan.

“Mohammed Kudus will captain the Black Stars against Sudan,” he said during the pre-match press conference on October 9, 2024, as reported by Joy Sports.

Since the announcement was made, some Ghanaians on social media have commended the coach for taking such a bold decision to select Kudus, who has been one of the best players for the nation.

On the other hand, others completely disagreed with the decision as they believe it would breed divisiveness in the team because Kudus is not experienced enough for such a role.

They argue that Jordan Ayew and Alexander Djiku are more experienced in the team in terms of age and matches played for the side, hence one of them deserves the captaincy more than Kudus.

The decision was made following the absence of substantive captain Andre Dede Ayew, who was called up to join the squad, and also his deputy Thomas Partey, who could not join the team due to injury.

Ghana will play Sudan on October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars' doubleheader against Sudan will have a major impact on Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after failing to win their first two games.

Ghana occupy the third position with one point in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after two matches.
