The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command ASP Yusif Tanko has indicated that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi misled them following his allegations that unknown persons have stockpiled ammunition in parts of Kumasi.

He said Wontumi led the police vehicle filled with officers to the alleged location but nothing was uncovered after the inspection.

The NPP Chairman last week alleged that they had a tip off of unknown persons hoarding arms and ammunitions to torment voters in the party’s stronghold.

But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he bemoaned the falsehood peddled by Chairman Wontumi.

He wondered why Chairman Wontumi has been deceiving the police for no apparent reason on two occasions by raising false alarm.

‘Last week Chairman Wontumi while addressing journalists said they have information that some military vehicles were carrying ammunitions to Kumasi and they followed the vehicles to Asuoyeboa SSNIT Flat. According to him, he followed the cars and made a phone call to the police and he was escorted with both police and military personnel to intercept the guns. This is a serious case so we asked all our commanders if there had been a complaint of a sort. We went to the house based on the number he gave us, we went to the house and called him for further clarification on the description of the house or better still come to the venue and point the house to us. He couldn’t tell us the name of the location, and the police the guns were handed over, the bus or military personnel who intercepted the guns.

We asked why they didn’t take pictures of the guns he saw, up till now he couldn’t answer our questions. He called again this Saturday and complained that some people have also stock piled guns in Tanoso at a certain house. We went there, only to meet him with journalists, after search, there was nothing in that house,’ he explained.

ASP Tanko called on Wontumi to stop creating fear and panic in the region.

He said the command has not recorded any disaster in the region warning that the police will arrest persons who visit houses to search for guns without any authorization.
