Embattled businessman and political financier, Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, has openly denied in court that he is the proprietor of a house situated in Abelemkpe, a suburb in the capital city of Accra.

Mr. Alfred Woyome's oral examination, which occurred on Monday, July 25th, was so the state, represented by Deputy Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Justice Godfred Dame, could inquire as to whether Mr. Woyome possessed property that would satisfy a GHC51.2m judgement debt wrongfully paid to him by the state.

The oral examination "showdown" was also in order for the state to inquire as to exactly how the embattled businessman spent the whopping GHC51.2m judgement. During the two hour long grilling, Mr. Woyome asked if he owned a residential building in Abelemkpe, a suburb in the capitol Accra, to which Mr. Woyome denied.

According to Mr. Woyome, the building in Abelemkpe is owned by his brother, and that the only building he claimed own stood in Kokomlemle. Nevertheless, according to reports Deputy AG Godfred Dame maintained that the building in Abelemkpe s indeed owned by Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, and that he possessed documentation that proved Mr. Woyome's ownership of the Abelemkpe property.

The court case, presided by a single supreme court judge, has been adjourned till October 2, at which point officials of the Lands Commission will come and testify at the Supreme court as to who the Abelemkpe property truly belongs to.

Commenting on the issue after the Monday's oral examination, Deputy AG Godfred Dame expressed optimism at the state's prospects of retrieving the funds paid to Mr. Woyome. “There is another asset at Ablemkpe that the court has told him to present documents for. Little by little, we are getting close how the state will recover the money. We have more assets in our possession that we will prove to him that he owns and he cannot but admit,” he said.
