A founding father of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah has stated that former President Jerry John Rawlings cannot always have his way of being in the helm of affairs of the party.
The country’s longest serving Attorney General recalled that Mr Rawlings had issues with him in the past because he wanted to have his way as due to his position as a founder of the party.
‘Mr. Rawlings has always had the idea of wanting to control what happens in the NDC party. Mr. Rawlings and I had issues in the past because he always wanted to have his way as the founder of the party,’ he told Francis Abban on Morning Starr.
He doubted if the former military leader’s influence is still strong in the party saying the Mahama faction is stronger than that of Rawlings and Mills factions.
Dr Asamoah suggested to Mr Rawlings to desist from wanting to be in control and rather be a team player when it comes issues concerning the NDC.
‘In the NDC, it looks like there are factions but I don’t belong to any of them. I have always admired the goals of Mr. Rawlings even though I don’t always agree with him on some of the things he does and some of his decisions. The Rawlings faction and Mills faction are not so strong. The Mahama faction is stronger than the above mentioned factions. Mr. Rawlings should be a team player when it comes to the NDC,’ the former NDC National Chairman advised.
