Some Ghanaian nationals have been extradited to the US over alleged fraudulent crimes
In the wake of arrests and the extradition of several Ghanaians allegedly involved in fraudulent romance scam schemes, targeting mainly elderly victims in the United States, the US government has issued a strong warning to fraudsters.
Assistant Attorney General for Fraud Encroachment, Colin McDonald, has said that US authorities are stepping up efforts to track down offenders and recover stolen funds.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 21, 2026, he said authorities are intensifying investigations and will ensure that anyone involved in fraudulent activities is brought to justice and made to repay every cent obtained illegally.
McDonald stressed that offenders will not escape punishment once identified.
“We are doing everything we can to find you, and when we do, we will prosecute you, and we will claw back every dollar you have stolen from the American people,” he said.
The US added that fraudsters should expect the crackdown to continue until all illegal gains are recovered.
“We will not rest until every fraudster knows that the cost of stealing from the American people is far higher than any scheme is worth,” he stated.
He further warned criminals to enjoy their freedom while it lasts, noting that enforcement efforts are closing in on them.

“And now my message to the fraudsters is this, eat, drink, and be merry today because your days of frolicking and freedom are numbered,” he said.
