‘GETFUND’ is making the headlines Monday morning and its basically because the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) Scholarship scheme audited for the period 2012 to 2018, has revealed appointees in the NPP administration taking state cash to go to school.
Sarah Adwoa Safo, Procurement Minister was cited with Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Education Minister, and Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Employment and Labour Relations Minister, as well as other government appointees and Members of Parliament, by the Auditor General as beneficiaries of the GETFund scholarships, a policy meant for needy but brilliant students.
Many have questioned the rationale behind the act particularly because of the status of these named persons in society.
Social media has not been left out, tweets from all directions point to the fact that, Ghanaians are amazed by the development and as usual, they are expressing their views.
“But this is extra disturbing. This isn’t even for relatives and children of family friends of government officials but this time, they themselves got the scholarship. Adwoa Safo, you be MP wey your popee dey do robots, ibi $24k you no fit pay?”, a tweep said.
Others mentioned weren’t spared also. Education Minister, Matthew Opuko Prempeh who has since the reports released a statement to refute the claims received his fair share of backlash from social media users regardless.
Here’s how some Ghanaians reacted to the subject on twitter:
GETFund had that coming.

Oh it definitely does both. I just can't wrap my head around using #GETFund to pay for ministers of state/ MPs to attend short courses and conferences.

GETFund is breaching its act to spending on the most privileged people.
When everyone loses confidence in the system, the anger of the people will explode.
People will surely pay for their wrongdoing. https://t.co/8LNvHFuiU0
