Emphasis should be made on how security chiefs can be fired not appointed. In the western world even though most of these pilice and army chiefs are appointed by their heads of state, they CAN NOT be fired by that same appointing authority. Just like judges and justices can not be fired by those heads of state unless a prima facie has been established against them.

Ghana's constitution should be amended to make the Ghana Police Service autonomous. Our presidents wield too much power and are not held accountable.

Well, I have always thought the IGP and his Deputy should be appointed by a body of Retired IGPs,plus A group of Commissioners of police and other Deputies forming a Body as A Joint Commissioners of police. They should jointly appoint a new Leader. They should appoint their own Leader to the President in a special secret vote and present him/her to the President who in turn should appoint that person Officially to the Nation. This should help the president with any drive against corruption and other criminal activities in the country without any political interference. There would be less corruption and less criminal activities.
