The British made the fantis or merchants of cape coast the middlemen while the kumasianos the receivers of the slaves from the middle and northern belt. At one point in time the Ashanti's led by kumasihene felt cheated and decided to do direct business with the British so the fight between the Ashanti's and the fantis, it was actually fantis Ashanti war limited to cape coast and kumasi. The British felt the kumasi people are breaking protocols and the need to put them in order and decided to burn kumasi, that was really bad. This isn't worth celebrating. Our attitude of breaking protocols to meet directors and president over little issues date back many years and is a contributing factor to our under development.
