We have allowed Politicians to take us for granted, infact as fools and unreasonable Citizenry for a very long time. It must not be left to only GUTA and Dr. Obeng leading this charge against oppression and exploitation of the people of the State by Politicians. This is something the public service and civil service in particular should have done long time ago. We have highly respected academics and intellectuals in this Country who have become stooges bootlicking Politicians all the time because they must chop. These are highly accomplished persons in public and civil service like Doctors and Professors who cannot function effectively and responsibly as Chairmen, CEOs and Directors of Boards, Councils and Agencies in this Country because of political corruption and cronyism. Everybody including such experts or technocrats want to be close to the Politician to benefit from organized crimes and rot because of the huge financial windfall albeit illegally in the political
arena. We have a system designed by Politicians to cheat, exploit and hold the poor masses perpetually hostage to control and manipulate same to have stranglehold on power. We only have to look at the salaries and emoluments of Ministers and Members of Parliament pare passu University professors, lecturers, doctors and engineers to appreciate that we have an extremely unfair system that will always promote political corruption with the unfair and exploitative huge financial incentives that go with politics besides illegal pilfering and looting of State resources at the expense of the poor masses because of a corrupt system, designed to inhibit probity and accountability by the same Politicians. It is an extremely laughable and useless rhetoric when Politicians in seeking political power incessantly talk about fighting corruption in the Country especially in the public sector. The best and most rational approach to fighting public sector corruption is complete repeal of the so-called article 71 office holders and introduction of a salary and wage system that reflect qualification, expertise, relevance and quality of work. This is what serious Counties not just in the developed world but developing countries even in Sub-Sahara Africa do. The system we have encourages laziness, cheating, indiscipline, overt theft and criminality hinged on quest for political power which form the basis of unequal wealth distribution in favour of the political industry. You therefore have a situation where corrupt, sick and demented Octogenerians will want to persist as board or council Chairs or Directors without giving way to viable and highly resourceful youth because they cannot afford to lose the financial windfall through politically engineered organized looting by a criminal syndicate often involving friends and families. On the contrary, you have a situation where the youth developed a mindset of aggressive pursuit of wealth with voracious appetite for stealing and exploitation and the only short circuit root that guarantee this is politics. You therefore find the youth, both highly skilled and unskilled ones scrambling to join politics to have political power that ensure unmerited disproportionate wealth acquisition including financial wealth for no service or little service to State. Key institutions of governance including the Executive, Parliament and Judiciary are not in any way committed to reforms that ensure genuine anti-graf measures because they are beneficiaries. We have a Political leadership and key operatives who are generally selfish, unpatriotic and un-nationalistic without the political will and commitment to stamp out corruption that is literrarily suffocating us to death and impeding development as a result of highly unfair and disproportionate wealth distribution which is impoverishing maltitudes at the expense of few political elite and their associates. We have a typical scenario of crony capitalism and nepotism in Ghana with the few close to the corridors of political power with access to wealth and power benefitting and using same to abuse, molest and oppress the rest of the population who are getting poorer, hungrier and increasingly angry with the state of affairs in the Country. Besides, the threat of bad governance and the problem of endemic mass corruption, there is also the threat of tyranny, oppressive brutalities and insecurity against the poor and powerless by the rich and powerful with political leanings or connections. This is what is resulting in people openly expressing their frustration and anger and venting their spleen directly on the President. What the Public Sector and Civil Society Organization need to do is to adopt the style of GUTA to push for reforms that ensure accountability, transparency and fair distribution of wealth, goods and services by political office holders in favour of majority who are poor and deprived. People will have to ignore a rubber stamp Parliament that is largely ineffective in checking excesses by the Executive and don't in anyway represent the interest of the people in often pushing through socially unfriendly policies and programs for corrupt and selfish gains. Even though we have a very docile, corrupt and politically inclined Judiciary, Citizens, CSOs and other Pressure Groups should begin exploring avenues of suing Government, Parliament and other State actors to challenge unpopular anti-social policies, programs and statutory provisions that only encourage political corruption to the detriment of the masses. This must start with review and reform of the Constitution in which provisions should be made for holding political office holders including the President accountable for stewardship even after exiting office.
Just look at this man's mouth. He looks like someone who enjoyed eating surplus food during his secondary school days. He is the bank roller of the criminal organization called NPP. He should stop fooling Ghanaians.
