if you are a member you can apply for financial help.
There are countries like Switzerland which is not a member of IMF , Swiss government don't pay any dues to IMF hence cannot apply for a bailout if she need financial assistance.

Like the Ambassador, you don't know that Ghana's gold was used to finance the voyages of Christoph Columbus to the America many centuries ago, well before Europeans started settling on that continent. And that God given wealth still abounds in our country today.
So, if the Ambassador can threaten us today with economic repercussions, it is because Ghana as a whole, including her leaders at all levels, doesn't know the economic values of the natural resources this country is awash with. In the particular case of gold, we see only the decorative, ornamental value. The US Ambassador can feel bold enough to threaten us because we are literally sitting on a gold mine, holding a huge begging bowl in our hands. We'll never be respected as long as we continue to disrespect our values and culture.
