The so-called P/NDC who pretend to be Nkrumaists have ruled for over 25 years but they nothing to reverse this. Yet when patriots like SD Dombo, CK Tedem, Yakubu Tali, etc who served Ghana with all their might are named after, the NDC says they will reverse the names when they come to power. Put, politics aside and look at the profile of Yakubu Tali propose just one veteran public figure from the North who is more qualified than Yakubu Tali and hasn't been honored yet, and lets start the conversation from there. Remember the late Aliu Mahama has been named after the Tamale sports stadium already. If we were to honored those who don't engage in politics we would have to rename almost everything in Ghana. The pety politics must stop.

The party was never hijacked, it's initials were scooped up by what is now known as the NPP. The Northern Peoples Party's key founders were Dombo and Karbo, who hail from the Upper West Region. The NPP had a few other folks like Tali who joined in, but the party collapsed right after independence. Dombo and Karbo then joined forces with the Busia/Danquah Tradition while Tali freelanced between the CPP and other regimes. After Dombo and Karbo joined forces with Busia, the Northern People's Party seized to exist as an active party, since Dombo and Karbo were the main players within the Northern People's Party. The vast majority of the Northern People's Party joined forces with Busia, Akufo-Addo, Danquah, and others in opposition to Nkrumah and the CPP, thus naming their party the UP. When Busia run for office as head of state, his UP party was renamed the Progress Party (PP). When Busia's time in office was cut short, the elephant-riders decided to change their party initials from PP (Progress Party) to the current NPP (National Patriotic Party) since the Northern People's Party had seized to exist as an active party, and many of the key players of the Northern peoples Party had now become full-fledged elephant-riders. Today's NPP is a political party that has shed its skin several times, from UP to PP and now NPP. My presentation is very brief, and I hope others with more info can add to it or dispute my representations.

His Excellency Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali is one of the greatest Ghanaians, North of Ashanti to play a very meaningful role in the unification the then Northern Territories Protectorate, Ashanti and the Gold Coast colony.
My personal contract with him goes back to 1979,when he was the running mate of the best presidential candidate Ghana ever had, Mr Victor Owusu of the Popular Front Party and I was the Parliamentary candidate for the Tallensi Nabdam Constituency. He was well grounded and groomed. He exuded a charismatic charm that captures total admiration from the younger generations.
Hir impeccable command of the Queen's language was second to none. In his white flowing bubanriga, the contrast of the sound of his voice alone sets the listeners to complete ecstasy of surprises.
He knew the Northern Territories and terrain like the palm of his hand. He played meaningful diplomatic role during hectic and sour political impasse between Nigeria and Ghana. Very generous and always ever ready to put a smile on the face of anyone who encountered him.
He was a politician without bitterness, impeccable sense of dressing and character. He was indeed the Northern Star. Baba as I used to call him was indeed a Patriot and he deserved many monumental edifices named after him.
Tamale Teaching Hospital could be named after Naa Gbewaa .

I feel privileged to have been associated with him in 1979,when I was the Parliamentary candidate for the Popular Front Party, which he was a running mate to the best president Ghana never had, Mr Victor Owusu Esq.He deserves more accolades.
