Every decent-minded, discerning observer also knows how the Abuakwahene has been attempting to elevate himself, with the help of the Akyem Mafia now ruling Ghana, as the overall King of Okyeman, ignoring the indestructible fact that there are other Paramount Chiefs in Akyem who share the same level of traditional authority in the area as Ofori Payin. The larger Akyem Citizenry has not elected Ofori Payin to be their Overlord or King. Yet, the Media has been coerced or deceived into leading a campaign to portray the Abuakwahene to the World as the Okyehene as if he wields an exclusive authority over the rest of the Chiefs. No! The Abuakwahene is only that and nothing more. He is not even considered as 'primus inter pares' among them.

Since his ascendance to the Presidency, Akufo-Addo has coyly manipulated the public to regard his hometown Chief of Kyebi and the Abuakwa traditional area as the King of all Akyems. This unfortunate attempt to grab for the Abuakwahene some higher authority that he has never had seems to have engendered in him a certain sense of arrogance and display of invincibility, untouchability, and infallibility. He has, thus, developed a hypersensitivity to how others respect him. Any criticism of him, however benign and genuine, becomes very offensive to him to which he reacts tyrannically. Such is what he has initiated with this lady complaining about Ofori Payin's attitude on the land destruction.

If we compare how the Akyem Mafia and Akufo-Addo insulted former President John Mahama at his incumbency when the former was in opposition, to the alleged insults by the lady of the Abuakwahene, the lady's pales in comparison. But Mahama did not pursue any civil suit against them. Moreover, this hypersensitivity of the Kyebi Chief to criticism by a fellow Citizen stresses his unwillingness to accept the realities on the ground and how the criminal destruction of the land and waters affects the lives of the Masses who depend on them for sheer existence.

As much as Ofori Payin, as well as any other Citizen, reserves the right to sue others who offend them, it is a general tacit belief that leaders who claim certain high positions in the society should not react so acutely punitive to the criticisms of the Masses.

The new sense of pre-eminence in Ofori Payin is further manifest in his vitriolic reaction to the Chief who deputized for the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, during a funeral visit to Abuakwa and failed to stand up upon Ofori Payin's appearance at the funeral. Most attentive folks know what happened next. The incident tainted the existing cordial brotherly relationship between the Abuakwahene and Asantehene, with many thinking the Abuakwahene simply capitalized on that perceived disrespect of him by the Asante emissary to claim equality to the Asantehene--something that is far-fetched at best and most insolent and fallacious and insipid at worst.

So, it must be noted by all Ghanaians how the current occupier of the Ofori Payin stool, has been propped up by his relative and President of Ghana to assume such dubious and false authority with which he is throwing his weight about to quelch genuine criticisms from concerned Citizens.

When the tables turn and Akufo-Addo and his Akyem Mafia are swept off the helm of national governance, the Akyem Abuakwahene must count on it that the Masses would waste no time to exact fitting retribution and correction of his authority to its real dimensions.

I therefore entreat all fair-minded and caring Ghanaians to empathize with the lady and offer her all the moral support she would need to survive this threat from the Abuakwahene and his likely Galamsey troopers. All thoughtful Akyems must wisely not abandon the lady now in her contribution to fight the historical destruction of the land.
