The fake story of Nkrumah showering toffee on children was peddled by this same Akyem Mafia. Israel used to be a great friend of Ghana.

There was no time anybody asked to close my eyes and ask for toffees from God. No time!

Someone may have ptanked you, but it wasnt part of the 'Pioneer' culture to ask for toffees.

I was a Young Pioneer myself. I graduated from African Personality (those with only scarfs) to a Young Pioneer. What Mr. Odoom said about toffee actualy did happen. Indeed, we were made to recite "Nkrumah never dies, Nkrumah is our messiah". The toffee gimmic was part of the indoctrination for us to believe Nkrumah was "our messiah". No one born 1960 or later could have been a Young Pioneer. Nkrumah was overthrown on February 24, 1969, therefore anyone born even in January 1960 would have been only years and at best, going to primary class three then.

With the toffee issue, it may have happened at certain places (I guess it happened at Arts Center then) but not all parts os Ghana.

My own auntie was among the first batch of people that were flown to Russia.

Yes I was a member of the Young Pioneer Movement. We were made to know that Nkrumah never dies and greater than any other person in Ghana. Were were told report anyone including our parents if they said anything negative about Nkrumah. That's why so many innocent people were jailed in Nsawam.

Thank you, Mr Odoom. When I tell friends about this 'prayer to God and Nkrumah, they think it is a LIE. Yes, I was having that experience at the Pioneer Centre in Accra on Thursdays. That was the day we had our meetings.

We know what Nkrumah did, but we will be grateful if you could furnish us with what the "God" that Nkrumah was pitching himself against also did for you in Accra. Please, do not hesitate to respond. Demonising the man who gave every single vein in his body to improve upon our lives has become a national sport. Personally, I never met him or encountered his regime but the physical evidence of the infrastructure that the Legend called Nkrumah, left us is a testament to his greatness. Maybe, you are proud with our Cyanide - cum - mercury - laced rivers and the outright plundering of our meagre resources for the benefit of a few venal politicians in Ghana today as opposed to the egalitarian structure Nkrumah had in mind for all of us.

My mother gave me 10 pesewa for the scarf but still refused to buy it.
I was in the Boys Scout and didn't want to stop but I sometimes participated in Judo training with the Young Pioneers.
Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown in Feb.1966 when I was in Middle school form 1.
Ofcourse,some children joined other organisations,not everybody fancy Ghana Young Pioneers Organisation.Tnx.

So, that is the difference between man and God. That man is kind and God is cruel and wicked.
Whilst we children keep on finding all though the day.
And with our eyes keep on searching through the night.
Children building their foundation.
Elders with their jubilation.
All together, build our nation all through the day.

The Ghana Young Pioneers did a lot of good to our youth. It instilled a sense of pride patriotism discipline and respect for others. Made the youth more law abiding and respect for our elders , customs and traditions. The youth were made to know who they were and what was expected from them as future leaders of our nation. The children were taught Traditional values dances etc.. and were Not just left to their own devices as present day. Most of our present problems are due to our youth just left to do whatever they wanted. Lawlessness,,lack of respect etc…
