  Dr. (med) politics is being played on the premium and it's high time it's stopped for realistic premium is paid so NHIS can handle health care completely. Current premium should be moved to 100/150 cedis so that once you access health care you know you won't pay for anything. The poor we're trying to protect turn to go through hell if they access health care. You turn to pay more in the current system.policy people look into it. Go to the hospitals and find out what is happening and review the system please

  Thank you Farouq. Exactly the point i have been raising for years. Unfortunately our leaders lack the political will to do it. 25 cedis a year can only buy paracetamol. Increase it to 150 or 200 and include dialysis, cancer and maternity care to the coverage.
  There are some companies that are willing to pay for the vulnerable in society. I my mself cater for more than 20 family members NHIS renewals yearly and I prepared to even add 20 more strangers when its increased so we get better health care.
  
  Provided after the shambolic cathedral project, someone doesnt come and use the funds raised, to build a National sheine...

  Honestly, l think this suggestion if implemented will solve the ECG bills in most hospitals. We need Smart thinkers like Dr to tell us this.

  The answer comes in 2 folds

  we are practising try en Error by using the sick people precious life for an experiment.
  
  if we do have competent experts in the various fields of our medical Hospitals
  diseases and problems are surely within 1 or 2 days at the hospitals identified , and the right medicine prescriptions are made,.
  any medicine that is been taken for a particular disease if it is the right medicines within 3days the patient must see a sign of relief.
  if a patient spent for eg 1 weak at hospital, I don't think if you factor the utility Bill in the hospital Bill calculation is going to be huge that the patient upon been treated and become healthy again would defer not to pay the bill.
  The UK system you want to operate in Ghana is not fixable.
  how many people do work and are been paid through BANKS in the UK ? it is over 80% of the population
  so for the UK they could deduct the NHIS levy from your monthly pay for the government to have more than enough to cater for the people when they are sick.
  that is why it is compulsory in the UK to have the NHIS card. THE MONEY IS BEEN DEDUCTED MONTHLY MONTLY .
  
  NOW IN THE CASE OF Ghana
  
  the majority are not been paid through BANKS
  the majority are been self employed and their money are not in the Banks so you cannot deduct anything from the majority as NHIS .
  this made the operating system in Ghana very unrealistic.
  what we should do is
  
  THE NHIS need to be operated like the motor vehicle insurance.
  whereby there are numerous of sick insurance operators in the country in which the people may be asked to pay. their premiums to those sick insurance companies and send their BILLs to the companies to pay- $like if I have a motor accident and have a third party or full cost insurance cover, I will give the car to the insurer to pay the cost of the damages.
  in this scenario the little tax the government would collect from the insurance companies , she could use it to improve the infrastructure deficits.
  ^The government could use the payments of the hospitals as the internal gernerated fund to improve the service conditions of the workers at the hospitals.
  how much are we paying as NHIS per annum ? very I insufficient for the huge task .
  if we don't correct this anormallies
  NHIS will never function properly even if Jesus is the president
