It is now the national anthem of South Africa post apartheid.Before then,it was the national anthem of most of the countries around Southern Africa.It used to be the anthem of the freedom fighters dotted around the area.

The Ga version of the song is the original and the Zambia rather copyright and are using it as their national anthem. Take it or leave it

South Africa adopted the original version from the GA/Adangbe , then changed it to Zulu versions after independent from the apartheid regime, according to my Girlfriend
