If the graves are close to a century old, then they’re only symbolic. They don’t pose any health dangers and have no evil spiritual significance whatsoever. Once dead, you’re yaamuutu. Only a writer who is too lazy to do a little background check and publishers like Ghanaweb who will put any foolish articles online are to blame. The whole of Old Fadama sits on Hausa Gormi. There are several settlements that were previously burial grounds. In Europe, homes encircle cemeteries where fresh burial continue. What’s the big fuss over schools near old sites that are 100 years old?

Is this too news? How can a century old grave be an environmental hazard to humans? This journalist is confused with her facts and is all over with inaccurate information.

I was at Enobal Middle Mixed School from 1969 to 1973. The schools surrounding the cemetry were Labone Primary, St Pauls Middle Mixed, Emmaus Primary School and Presby Boys Middle School. I was there when Acheampong overthrew Busia. That cemetry was not in use even in those days. I doubt if it will pose any problems today. Respect to former headteacher Master Mantey. I hope he is still living.
