When the Asantehene or Asantehemaa dies and store and markets are closed down in Ashanti Region, the New Juaben stores and markets are opened even on the funeral day. Just go to New Juaben Paramountcy and find out.
I come from New Juaben but grew up in Ashanti Region. I am very knowledgeable in Asante history so I know what I am talking about. The Asantehene sometimes try to assume certain powers that he doesn’t have under the Asante constitution. Are you not ashamed when some Asante people and the Asantehene himself try to portray himself as the KING OF GHANA? How can this be? The Asantehene by the Constitution of Ghana is not above the Gonja, Dagomba and any other Paramount Chief in Ghana.
Let me tell you that he is very much respected but he sometimes tries to assume powers not granted him by the Constitution. If he is the King of Ghana as some of you want to portray, can he enstool and destool any Paramount Chief among the Anlo Ewe, Ga, and Akyem people. Can you believe that it can be possible for the Asantehene to enstool or destool the Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa, Bosome, and Kokofu? Learn to know that the Asantehene has not got that much authority as he tries to claim and some of you try to assume for him. Has he been able to impose his choice on the people of Kokofu? If he is that powerful, tell him to visit Canada without Diplomatic immunity and see if he will not be in prison. Yes, he is a wanted man there. Why has he not been to Canada since he mounted the throne? How many times has he been to the USA and all over Europe. The Asantehene’s authority has limitations. Just learn to accept that.
