For high-speed, long-distance rail travel self-driving technology is further away than you might expect, this is because it’s harder to manage the stoppage distance of trains over long distances than of any other vehicle type. Trains need to identify stations or obstacles well in advance before making a calculated stop. To make matters worse, the friction between a train’s metal wheels and metal tracks is far lower than that between a car’s tyre and the road. So, coming to a quick stop needs human oversight, and achieving full automation would require far more advanced image processing technology than is currently available. That technology would then need to pass more rigorous reliability tests than self-driving cars, before being legally allowed to control public transport, because although both are terrible, a car crash has nowhere near the destructive potential of a train wreck.

The pebbles would’ve prevented him from getting to the top, AND he would’ve definitely tipped over. It was all intentional. This is NDC modus operandi. This is what they do. Even if the sensor detects when objects are deliberately placed on train tracks like this one just some few minutes before the train gets to that venue it’s hard for operators to stop. Trains don’t stop spontaneously, trains are not regular automobile vehicles that can apply spontaneous brakes. Get that into your brains. This is a real sabotage. Six months jail sentence is too short for such serious sabotage. It’s a clear sabotage that the NDC is using to undermine the government. Does the name involved also incidental too? The name itself speaks a lot!

I would have thought that based on the railway laws, an appropriate offense would have been found relating to unauthorised crossing of railway tracks and causing damage to railway assets. More importantly, rather than seeing this as a one off development, we need to seriously consider the establishment of a National Transportation Safety Board or Authority comprising the multimodal transportation - road, air, rail and maritime - which would investigate such incidents and make recommendations for structural safety.

Was there any evidence there was a rail track or it had already been buried in the sand?
Did Ghana railways know that to start using an old abandoned railway, the community ought to be informed of such a testing with signs?

if a railway line is crossing a road , it is either you make the railings as overhead or underpass this is modern instructions on professional engineering.
if the railway line constructor has failed to guide the passing train from crashing to a crossing vehicle, we must look at the project and it safety engineering again
as usual use the driver as an escape goat , and ,leave the actual cause behind.
2. there is also important questions that need answers from the operators of the railway.
if you construct a new railway line, and the railways are not in operational - there must be a guided pre-trial train infront of the testing rail why do they not adhered to this common practise ?
