  While in agreement that football has changed drastically from 1982, demeaning the achievement of Black Stars in 1982 on grounds of low quality competitors is to be deny credit where it is due. Remember in 1982, Cameroun and Algeria represented Africa at the world cup in Spain and they performed quite well. Cameroun lost to no country and were eliminated by fewer points than their group's winners. Algeria beat Germany in a huge upset.

  What George Alhassan said of the 1982 squad is false. Emmanuel Qurshie, zkofi Badu, Ali Ibrahim. Asaase J, Opoku Nti were all playing outside.

  Point of correction,please Ali Ibrahim was not part of 1982 squad,he was playing at Colts(Juvenile).And Kofi Badu,Albert Asase and Opoku Nti were all local players playing for Kumasi Asante Kotoko back then.

  It’s a shame that none of leadership in Ghana from Rawlings administration to Akuffo-Addo’s administration done anything about rewarding those who won the last African Cup of Nations in 1982 with less time to prepare. The captain of the squad died without recognition. I’m not saying the government should go around giving these players money every time. But the fact that Rawlings didn’t give them anything doesn’t mean that Kuffour, Atta Mills, Mahama and Akuffo-Addo also shouldn’t do anything about this. Kofi Abbrey is very ill and nobody knows it or care about it. Do we think Ghana will ever see the African championship cup again in Ghana, well the laws of nature will answer that.
