He was all along using the party for his parochial interest; just bidding his time until he would be made the leader. He was never ready to go into the trenches to do the hard work. He could’ve gone into parliament for instance. Why didn’t he? That, coupled with his ministerial positions, could’ve been a route to building a strong support base within the party. He failed to do that cos he felt entitled. He just simply lost the plot, and in his utter disappointment, decided to quit the party with self-serving encouragement from similarly disgruntled individuals. The basic foundation of democracy is that the will of the majority carries the day and he, Alan, failed to recognize that. He’s rather trying to subvert the will of the majority within a group he wanted to lead. ‘Aduru me su’ indeed.
