Stashing Ghana cedis is one thing, but stashing Dollars in millions and Pounds Sterling in hundreds of thousands is questionable.

In the US, when Feds or any law enforcement finds $50000 dollars with you, you would need to justify how you got it. If it's genuine, I don't think you'd have problems defending the them. Why should Ghana be different.

Why wouldn't thief Dapaah tell us how she came by those monies and why she would have them in her house instead of a bank. Societe Generale had foreign money account for clients.

What people are saying is that she is hoarding at home and HER BANK accounts monies she allegedly illegally acquired (how is up to the investigative authorities to find out); monies she hasn't provided satisfactory account of where she acquired them from. The source of funds is very important in determining the proof of genuine transactions in money transfers, for instance. Even bank statements are not accepted, being only evidence of funds, unless from a savings account. Pay slips, loans deeds, self assessment letter, P60 (in the UK), etc., are accepted as source of funds. So if the money was genuinely acquired, was tax paid on the business done? If not, then it's criminal to attempt to hide the money anywhere, including in the cemetery, as some Nigerians did. //As first and foremost a Political Scientist, I find it very troublesome that lawyers have been in teh forefront of bastardising all the principles of governance the law students used to join us at N2 to learn. With his kind of thinking there would be no need at all for assets declaration before and after assumption of office and conflict of interest dealings. The NPP has really lost the plot with one of its legal "luminary" thinking like this. I once read that the Internal Revenus of the US finally got Al Capone into jail based on his lavish spending in restaurants which led to tax evasion charges.

Granted there is no law in Ghana that prevents people from stashing money at home. Don't we have a law that require ministers in Ghana to declare their assets prior to assumption of public office? There is certainly such a law in Ghana! The question is: Did Cecilia Dapaah declare all that money she stashed in her house as part of her asset declaration prior to assumption of office as a minister? Certainly not. Is Sam Okudzeto saying the failure to declare the money does not amount to a wrongdoing? Let us be serious as a nation and confront corruption devoid of partisanship.
