Ashantis have never denied that, and they have also never denied that Otumfuo Osei Tutu l was shot on the river Pra, so why that bitterness.

Kwasia Tutu I, was a slave to the Denkyira people. The Denkyira also called ADEWU were from Bono Nkyiraa. A province around modern day Wenchi in the Bono Region of Ghana.

Prominent Denkyira indigenes includes former President Kuffour. Kwasia Tutu I, went to learn Akan traditional customs because Kwaeman (Asante), Oboasi, Amansie , basically all the modern day Ashanti region were vassal states of the Denkyira. Hence , they served the Denkyira hene ODEEFUO Boapemsem and later OD33FUO NTIM GYAKARI.

Osei Tutu I, instead of learning the Akan culture properly, impregnated the sister of Denkyira hene and in those days , that would be tantamount to death warrant. He run to Akwamu ( the people of Dormaa). Akwamu. The Akwamu deity , Tutu assisted Osei Tutu’s mother to conceive. Hence , he was named after that diety. They sheltered him and he met his friend also on the run from Denkyira called Okomfo anokye.

Back in Kwaeman. The Dormaa’s had been in battles with the uncle of Osei Tutu I , called Obiri Yeboah.
Obiri Yeboah had started the confederacy with the other vassal states to free themselves of the Denkyirahene.

The first asantehene was Obiri Yeboah. After Antwi and Amanfi of amansie. The Dormaa’s killed Obiri Yeboah , Dwamena Akenteng of Offinso, Okomfo Yamoah of Agona and Yaw nwawaah of peboso. These guys were a part of the newly formed confederacy.

Upon the death of Obiri Yeboah. Osei tutu I, was heir to the stool. He was super scared of Denkyira hene . The Akwamus, gave him warrior soldiers to guide him to Kumasi (Kwaman). The soldiers are the people of Adum (anum).

It must be said over time, Ntim Gyakari had become a despot ruler and his people had abandoned him. Asantes only fought a weakened Ntim Gyakari, whose forces even fought against him.
The saying Oseeeeeyeeeeee. Was coined from that war. The Denkyira army told the now Osa nti (bastardised Asante ) , they would shout Osei eeeeee, then the Osantis would respond Yeeeeeeeeeiii.

For the Denkyira’s to recognise and not attack them. There was no way Osantis could’ve defeated Ntim Gyakari.
