The extra money (bribe)demanded b4 giving out the passports meant people abandoned the passports in the end. Now that they can use their Ghana cards in most places they leave the passports for the corrupt officers at the passport office. Only people who need the passport for travelling abroad pay pay the bribe to collect their passports. A friend paid 100 cedis and applied for his passport on line and selected date for his biometrics to be done. On the day of the appt he was made to pay another 200 cedis and given a date for his passport collection. When he turned up to collect the it he was told there was shortage of booklets so no passport. After several trips to chase up the passport were unsuccessful someone gave him a name to contact. Since my friend was in urgent need for the passport to travel he made the contact. He was told to send the receipt from the Accra passport office to someone at the Tema passport office which my friend did. The next day my friend received a picture of his passport and told to pay 600 cedis into a MoMo account which he did because he was by now desperate to travel abroad. He then received instruction to go to the Tema Office to pick up the passport he applied for at the Accra Office. He turned up at the Tema office with the contact details he was given and met by the person with his 38 page booklet passport despite being told at Accra that his passport was not ready because of booklet shortage! Ghana is doomed, rampant corruption everywhere and young people working in govt offices are at the fore front of the practice. The future is bleak with the young being so corrupt already, no thanks to their senior govt officials whom the young emulate!

The passport office kept my daughter's passport until we paid a bribe. We went through the normal process to get the passport, but it took a whole year because every time we inquired, we were told it wasn't ready. I had to find someone inside the office to check if it had been done, and was told it was ready but that I had to pay 500 cedis to get it. I couldn't afford to pay, but later had to pay 200 Ghana cedis before I was finally given her passport. What they do is they don't even send a notification to inform you that your passport is ready. This system is taking advantage of poor Ghanaians. My daughter missed out on a great opportunity because I couldn't pay 500 Ghana cedis.
