That is the policy for the current administration. If you think the quality of High school education has gone down and you can pay your wards' school fees, either send your wards to private schools or always donate what you can pay to your ward's school, and it will be accepted. I wonder how these so-called professors can be so carlous and wicked as to refuse free education for the poor in society. What will be the criteria for determining who can afford it or not? Malaysia, Singapore, China, Korea and the rest grew in stature because of free education over the years. By the way, the results of free SHS at the WASSCE have been very good, especially with the latest results. Availability of infrastructure has improved greatly in all schools. So by what data are these naysayers determining that that the quality of education has become worse than it was. It's just a matter of some people playing politics against the success of the policy and some others who're ignorant following them blindly. You are too old to understand the benefits and the quality output of free SHS.

The government has no money to spend on education partly because of corruption. Free education deprives the country from having the funds invested in training of good quality teachers, furniture, good standard laboratories and designing of the appropriate curriculum.

He cited himself as an example by saying, he and others who can afford to pay must be made to pay so that, those monies are used for the provision of desks for the younger ones sleeping on the floor or sitting on blocks to write in the classroom.

Rich parents who can foot the bills of their children are the ones benefitting from the CMB scholarship and the question is why?

Prof, I respect you so much. However, on this score, I completely disagree with you. The only way to make the free SHS scheme successful and simultaneously achieve the cardinal objective of democratizing secondary school education in Ghana is either to make it free across the board without any discretionary bar or not to implement it at all. If any discretionary bar had been introduced in this free SHS system, Ghanaians, being the evil that we are, would have found a way to skew the scheme to favor some people against others. Look at how we have managed cocobod scholarships and the national scholarship scheme. Please, Professor, think about it again and factor in the evil mind of the Ghanaian to manipulate every situation to his exclusive advantage, and you will realize that introducing any criteria into the SHS scheme would have caused the scheme to fail miserably in the principal objective of democratizing secondary school education.

You can call that a scholarship scheme which has failed in the past. Such schemes in the past were highjacked by those who were supposed to be able to pay such as John Mahama's Father for JDM. In any case who is to decide who can pay and who cannot? Many white color jobbers may be labelled as able to pay but most of such suffer more than we may think. The recent Scholarship Sec scandals shows we are deceiving ourselves. The so called high income earners truthfully cannot afford paying fees that is why they scramble out the poor for that. No intelligent person will say this FSHS is application is unintelligent.

Government policy is government policy, NPP to maintain FSHS, you can advice other parties to come out with alternative as suggested and let's see what majority of Ghanaians want.

People who argue on people can pay are not telling us a. Ghana was worse off when previous administration was not implementing FSHS. b. People who can pay normally pay in different ways on PAYE of our tax system.

Besides, can we say the same about NHIS, people who can afford go somewhere. So those who can afford should send their wards to other school.

At least the counyry experienced free SHS in certain parts of the country for sometime before this supposed blanket one we are hearing hom comment on was introduced. He should know in our part of the world we dont have any mechanism to gauge whose parents can pay and who cant or who should pay and who should not. Did he not know that in the time of the free SHS in the then northern regions in the past, wards of even ministers and richmen from those areas whose children were in the best of elementary schools in other parts of the country were sent back to their regions to enjoy free SHS when their parents could have paid . Lets come down to the time of covid 19 when free cooked food and food items were to be supplied to the disadvantaged and the needy in the society. It was rather funny to realise that many of the people who did not fall within this category went and queued to collect some of the food meant for the disadvantaged. The good old Akilapa has been a great figure in education before and he's now. Does he know that the CMB scholarships of recent past meant to support children of cocoa farmers were mostly taken over by the children of the affluence and those who could have paid while those of the farmers could not benefit from it. Well I think the government should be praised for not using any criteria to choose and pick who should enjoy the current free SHS policy, because in our part of the globe, the measure of insincerity on the part of the people is such that his theory by which is a standa checklist he's using to slam the free SHS concept wouldn't have been workable.

Is Ghana Government SCHOLARSHIP under GETFund not meant to support poor needy students.?What do we see? It is the rich who knows who that are patronising it. Suffice it to say that if anyone deems themselves rich they can open an account and pay their fees into it voluntarily for the government to collect. Otherwise no parent will want to be categorised as being able to afford. Even if that money is not utilised for such a noble course some members in society will use it all. I mean spme of the politicians may use it for their personal agrandisement.please leave it as it is and improve it for the good of Ghanaians
