  These small, tiny land and population countries of Mauritius, Seychelles, Botswana, Equatorial Guinea and co even with better GDP per capita, I don't rate them highly. Because what's their contribution to African music, football, movies etc? How many African migrants live in these countries? For our African setting, I consider GDP a better measure of a country's wealth, so that the Nigerias, Kenyas etc with big GDPs are the big boys on the continent. African countries that manage to have both impressive GDP AND GDP per capita like south Africa etc are the richest on the continent

  While you have a valid point, consider this very interesting fact: Seychellois citizens have visa free access to 156 countries including all the Schengen area and even China. China has a very strict visa policy, so for a country to have visa free access to China, tells you a lot.
  The "big boys" of Africa can't even dream of such a privilege.
  As for the entertainment sector, it's probably because their arts are more towards French than English.
