This Randy Abbey guy is Empty Headed that is why Accra Aca don't even recognise him as their own.Dr Mahamudu Bawumia did not say every Ghanaian will be Credit Rated,what he meant was he will start from the working class(both formal and informal).We don't do such economic exercise on a massive scale,we start by doing feasibility test with a portion of the society,gradually when it picks up you open the channel for those who are interested.USA & UK don't have everybody on the Credit score for various reasons.Criminals,those who have abused it,those who don't want to work etc etc are all excluded.

Economic development is nothing superficial but common sense which most of my people in Africa have not proven to have but chosen to live in poverty and complain, despite all the numerous resources that God has granted them; Natural resources and human resources. This is why political appointments must end for any good persons to also have the chance by competition to serve in government or high authority as genuine democracy rather political appointments that breeds; incompetence, corruption and bribery etc., with an end-results of slavery, poverty and hardship. Until political appointments are ended, Ghana will never develop, Africa will not develop as continent and most other nations worldwide will remain poor. The fact is you need certain things in place before credit scores can be effective eg. your identity, and Ghana Card serve that purpose, and the address system. Unlike the 24 hour economy John Airbus Mahama is telling us is a policy, whilst the needed things are not in place.

With the credit scoring system financial institutions will be able to identify creditworthy persons and provide credit to them seamlessly. In advanced countries financial institutions chase people who have good credit score to offer them credit. In Ghana you have to chase the banks for credit even if you have a solid business plan. Some banks won't give you the loan if you're not on private or government payroll because they can't trust you.

Why is this VP always putting the horse before the cart? Your management of the Ghanaian economy is nothing to write home about. The whole country has been downgraded by the 3 most credible sovereign credit rating agencies; Moody's, S&P and Fitch resulting in us being shut from the international money market. You are not bothered by that as to find solutions. All you can do is to give moral lessons on enhancing households access credit? Do you know the causes of America's credit crunch? Fix the damn economy, and businessmen know how to navigate assessment of purchasing power and ability to curb non-performing facilities.

Also, banks and Bank of Ghana are struggling with non-performing loans (NPLs) just because borrowers are not credit worthy. Even the small credits being given by the Telcos to their customers have been abused. People took it, refused to repay and took different SIMs or changed networks. The old method of Trade Credit that market women used to help one another is no longer there but cash and carry. So, much as it's a good idea, it can't succeed because we are liars, thieves, hypocrites, rapists, demons, crooks, criminals, pretenders, traitors, fools, wizards, witches, betrayers, opportunists and murderers.

Do you know that in Russia everybody has a number(Ghana Card).With that they have data on Criminal Records,Academic Qualification,Health records,Employment records,Tax Pmt etc etc of each citizen.With these information governance becomes easier.The same way our Ghana Cards numbers can be use to build data for every Ghanaian including Credit Score to reduce Loan Pmt Defaulters.When this happens Interest Rates will reduce and those with high Credit Score purchasing power will increase leading higher sales,higher production.Eventually companies will need more hands to employ to increase supply to meet demand.

I however also agree that it is not an end but a plank towards something else. If we create credit and all that it is used for is consumption on imported goods we willbe worse for it as a country. Credit should be engineered towards domestic production not foreign consumption.

The reason credit system works in select Western countries is because they are destination countries. That's where people are fleeing to. That makes a huge difference.

Why would I issue credit to someone based on their credit rating when that person could be migrating the very next day?

Besides, even in those Western countries where the credit system works, all banks are insured by the Government. Meaning if a person refuses to pay their debt, the bank or creditor can recoup their money through the Government backed Insurance company.

Is Bawumia saying the Government of Ghana is going to provide financial insurance to creditors?

Sometimes let's think small.
Instead of this clown coming to tell us how he's going to make the systems work in Ghana, he's rather there putting the cart in front of the horse.

Credit system is good for people who already can afford to pay cash and serve as ease of payment but not for people struggling
