We've not been told how much the amount overpaid is. However if, as the chairman of the Committee suggested that, the poor teacher should pay the amount in his August salary, it means the amount is very very small.
Besides, the poor teacher did not play any part resulting in his overpayment. For this poor teacher to refund this money this will put severe hardship on him and his dependents. He should therefore be forgiven.
What is rather needed is, for those in charge of payments of salaries and wages to streamline their system so that no one is wrongly paid. It's unjust to overpay poorly paid persons like teachers and civil servants and ask them for a refund.

The Chairman of the Committee's suggestion was not based on the teacher's August salary, but on the teacher's own promise of the ability to pay from his investment! I could be wrong, but I believe that is what I heard.

Was it right to summon someone to travel all the way from Pusiga or somewhere that far to Parliament House in Accra just to spend three minutes to take an oath to tell nothing but the truth and just to say that: "Yes, the unearned salary has been paid back" and then to hear: "You are discharged"?

Are these some of the unnecessary "important duties" our high earning MPs perform on our behalf? Couldn't these have been easily settled in local courts? So what were our judges and magistrates doing when the PAC was in session?

Our parliament is not a serious one. This matter need not be brought to parliament in the first place. The payment authority (CAGD) would only have to make monthly deductions from his salary to recover the money.
