As government, it is better you go in for long-term loan to give any in-coming enough room to operate. Is that too hard to understand? Have you also asked where the government get the money to pay for the $500million annual debt on the power agreement Mahama signed?

Ghana has been making that $500million yearly debt payment since 2017 which adds up to almost $4billion and doesn't that have a toll on our resources? Put politics aside.

Under the able leadership of a visionary, Seth Terkper got busy putting up buffers to meet the country's debt obligations when they fall due, including the ones paid under Akufo-Addo-Bawuliar. Sinking fund (Escrow), Stability fund, ESRLA which Ofori-Atta collateralized, Heritage fund from our 3 oil field receipts among others. What did this NPP done with all these buffers? So it's not about duration of maturity of loans. It is about how well you invest such monies into productive sectors of the economy, such that repayment would not be a challenge. Take a look at Ghana Gas, Terminal 3, MPS, UGMC etc. compare to expenditure on consumption by the current administration. Bloated government and all the tax money used to fund it. Pelicles, if you put the politics aside yourself, you can be a good policy maker. Just try a little harder.

All loans secured by NPP government are long-term loan which gives any government enough room to operate.
