Too many men and women rush into marriage without thinking carefully what they are doing or where they are going. They allow sexual or physical attraction and good looks to dictate what they do next. The same goes for fame, money and "connections". Sadly these are the considerations that influence most young men and women today. They neglect the single most important thing of all- CHARACTER.
Nobody can build a firm foundation in marriage based only on good looks, physical attraction, wealth, fame or popularity (by the way these can all vanish or be lost).At best they only enhance a marriage that is already built on a firm foundation.
Our VALUES and BELIEFS are the things that shape our CHARACTER. Our character and values is what influences the important choices we make in life, whether it is a choice of a marriage partner, career or vocation and how we relate to other people. If we grew up in an atmosphere or were exposed to parents, older relatives and other influencers who consistently practised honesty and integrity, kindness, gentleness, consideration for other people, truthfulness, respect for faithfulness in marriage, loyalty, appreciation for the value of hard work then we ourselves would very likely develop a character based on these wonderful values. These traits are Godly traits. In the same way if while in our developmental years all we saw modelled before our eyes, by family, relatives, friends or other people we admired was dishonesty, cheating and deceiving others, constant strife, lies
and deception, unfaithfulness in marriage, laziness and lack of clear ambition, disrespect for others, callousness or indifference towards the suffering of others, then our characters will be shaped by these dysfunctional values. We would likely reach adulthood believing that is the only way to live our lives. Of course we all know exceptions in both of these two categories- 1.e. people lifting themselves out of an extremely dysfunctional background and living morally upright lives and achieving great things in life and conversely people nurtured in a very positive environment and yet ending up dysfunctional, morally bankrupt and unproductive in later life. The good news is that it is never too late to mend our ways.
Sex was designed to cement and enhance the marriage experience when all the above positive boxes have been ticked. Sex is a very powerful emotional "superglue" so it is extremely important to be very careful who you get "glued" to. Jumping into bed before marriage can cloud our judgement leading causing us to choose an unsuitable partner which will lead to pure misery after marriage. "He who finds a wife [or a husband for that matter] finds a good thing". You have to find that man or woman who is good marriage material (good character and great values) before you can marry them. This of course assumes that you are a great character yourself. If you have the right values you will be better able to look for similar values in your future spouse and you will not be easily led astray by unimportant things. Giving somebody a ring or saying your vows at the alter or marriage office will not be enough to transform a person into the great husband or wife you are craving for.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

How is this a bit deal when the man can so one of two things: go to court and have the woman pay for the cost of building, or pull down the building so she can have her land?
