The truth is that even today in our SHSs and universities, a lot of the students are unwilling to speak English. All they speak is Twi. Even when you speak English with them they reply in Twi and I don't know where Twi will take them to in this modern world of science and technology and AI.

Just the other day I was listening to this lady now in her 50s blaming her long deceased father for her poor level of education and inability to earn well.This same lady grew up in exactly the same environment as her siblings.True ,her father could not hold down a job for long and was often absent from home.The very same adverse conditions she faced was faced by her other siblings yet all the others perservered .They did not drop out of school. Some kind family members had contributed money to put them through primary and secondary school. This particular lady decided to drop out of school and travelled to one of our big cities to stay with an auntie.If I recall ,she dropped out of school again while living with this aunt and soon afterwards fell pregnat before the age of 20 years.
LET'S STOP FOOLING OURSELVES.LET'S FOR ONCE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR CHOICES WE MADE AND FOR SOME OF US FOR FAILING TO GRASP THE MANY OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED TO US.The first step to recovery is to accept responsibility for our own actions.Once we do this we can then gather courage and try to do something with our life even though the hill ahead of us may now look steeper and our legs feel more tired.There are many examples of men and women in their 50s ,60s and even 70s who courageously decided to have a new begining in spite of past poor choices.These people had courage ,humility and discipline so the made it even at their older age.They made it because they leaned from their mistakes.
