Let me put it into the coconut heads of NDC Followers that the Ayallollo Bus company collapsed on the very day of conception. Why bcoz the cost of each bus was inflated from 200,000 Dollars to 100,000 by John Mahama and his gang.No company with that huge debt on its book can grow with that initial cost.Again World Bank asked Mahama govt to start with 150 buses but bcoz of chooho they bought 300 buses.

Not only that. The NPP keeps on referring to the shortcomings of the very brief govt of Mahama over 10 years ago. This is because the NPP govt has belatedly realized that after all said and done, they have very little to point to in their favour after 8 continuous years in power. The situation has become so dire for them that they have now resorted to the desperate and dangerous option of seeking comfort in the tribal vote - not only to seek the remote possibility of being returned to power but more likely, to escape from a total trouncing from the coming elections. However, it seems that both the tribal card and a large mass of uninformed willy-nilly voters will not help the NPP escape from their self-inflicted predicament.

The NPP has nobody to blame except their sorry selves. They resorted to the classical pursuit of all capitalist parties to enrich and empower themselves and their followers - not by creating and offering juicy commercial and industrial opportunities to them, but rather by keeping a blind eye to massive and rampant acts of corruption, plunder and incompetence which inevitably led to massive poverty and the mass demonization of the Party and govt.

All respected local and international pundits point to a sound drubbing of the NPP Govt by its main adversary, the NDC Party.

We await the results of the December 7 election.

I know it will not be easy but like FSHS ,NPP shd convince GPRTU members to also form a company or cooperative unions to operate a proper mass public transport.Trotro transport can operate in our villages and outskirt of the cities.

What I mean was private companies shd takeover public transport.First those private companies shd be givenTax Exemption to import new buses possibly 5,000 buses for a start.The cities will be zone and given to these companies to operate within.Per our safety regulations a driver is not supposed to drive beyond 6hrs a day so just multiply the number of drivers for each company.They also need conductors(mates) so just add up the figures.All GPRTU members will get something to do under this modern mass public transport. If countries like Tunisia, Egypt,Kenya etc are doing why can't Ghana also do it.

Private enterprise can only succeed in underdeveloped countries if, as in Ghana, 60% of workers are paid slave wages such as GHC400 a month. An amount which can only buy around 16 loaves of bread for the whole month. Technically, we don't even have a sizable enough internal market for the thriving of a serious private sector. We also don't have sufficient capital in, or, accessible to private operators to improve the quality of their products or services to compete abroad. To top it all, we even have to buy the most basic of machinery to produce whatever we intend to manufacture. This, together with foreign servicing and replacement costs of parts wipes a huge part - if not all of profits off the plate.

It seems to me that we have, against all odds, been brainwashed with this private sector mantra by our oppressors who know very well that we will not, as is evident, make any headway. It will only serve to leave serious business in the hands of foreign exploiters - as is also clearly evident.

At best, we can tickle ourselves with some amount of buying and selling which in the long run, serves to undermine the very economy upon which we all depend on.

Needless to say, Govt - and I mean serious govts and not a gang of thieves, should take charge of the economy and allow for some private participation.

If after over 60 years of the neoliberal system, we can only point to a shabby and collapsed economy and boast of only a handful of rich people, what the hell are we doing with ourselves still talking about a private sector?

It is refreshing to read a reasonable comment or opinion from you for a change. Even though I also subscribe to the idea of eventually removing our good old tro-tros from urban areas, I think we should look beyond the mere fanciful idea of expensive electronic buses (toys) to the more realistic option of high-speed overhead urban trains. This option will instantly address the peculiar problems and difficulties of our typically unplanned vast and sprawling urban and per-urban areas. In addition, the arising diabolic congestion of our urban areas by the rural-urban drift, makes any other proposed solution of transportation dead on arrival.

Indeed, considering the compact size of Ghana and the demographics thereof, the overhead high-speed trains can eventually be deployed to effectively reach all major cities and towns around the country.

We should now consider overhead high-speed trains as the new tro-tros or commuter systems that can significantly revolutionize not only the transport sector but the entire spectrum of the national economy.
