Those projects are only making some individuals benefit from the corrupt nature of the packed activities and programmes. No physical evidence of the money spent or value for money can be seen by Ghanaians. The programmes majority are training training training- full of trainers, consultants etc; this is total nonsense. I respect Steve. But I think he needs not rush to judge. Prof. must remember that during the East-Asian financial crisis, Malaysia was the only country that rejected the IMF prescriptions, and the world predicted doom for the country. Yet, Malaysia was the first country to come out of the crisis.
The Fund prescriptions, which basically ask countries to pursue fiscal prudence, have not always solved the structural problems of those countries, that is why Ghana has been under such problems for 18 times.
While I fully accept that it is the responsibility of the leadership of Ghana to deal with the country's structural economic problems, I am also convinced the Fund Programme should never be seen as the complete solution to Ghana's endemic structural economic problems.
I don't have details of the 'tweaking' Mahama referred to, and I am sure the renowned Prof doesn't have the details either. That is why describing the mere mention of revisiting the Programme as 'another Ghanaian incompetence' too hasty a judgement.
