Marcel Desailly is a shining example of an African born who took advantage of opportunities in Europe through discipline and hard work. He wasn't a talented or technically gifted defender like Paulo Maldini or Fernando Redondo. He was a pragmatic defender who utilize his athleticism to full. effect by submitting to coaching to learn the rudiments of the game. He played for France but we all admired and like him in the late 80s and early 90s as a fellow Ghanaian especially in the famous Marseille team along the great Abedi Pele.. He was an inspiration and gateway to many African footballers especially defenders like Basil.Bolley though Bolley notably misbehaved towards his Ivorian roots in his career but was quick to make amends later. We thank Desailly for not forgetting his roots with his significant contribution to development of
football through the Lizzi Sports Complex. I was very happy he didn't waste his talent with the Black stats with our perennially corrupt, irresponsible and clueless GFA. Ghana has football talent in abundance but greed and lack of seriousness are our bane.. Retired and experienced footballers like Desailly, Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Tony Baffoe and of course Akwesi Appiah ahould be at the helm of affairs of our football. The Mafias at GFA only allowed Akwasi Appiah in because he can easily be controlled and whipped into line.
