Who told you he is a King? Check your constitution very well. We have no King in Ghana. He is just a Paramount Chief like the one at Nsuta, Bekwai, Kokofu, Gonja, Dagomba, and Nzema. What projects are his? They are Government projects and he doesn’t control them. If he has any problems with delays, he needs to contact the Government but not come to the Air with foreign dignitaries and speak like he owns Ghana. Will the Gonja, Dagomba, Nzema and Ewe Paramount Chiefs speak like that in public? He has been allowed to be too arrogant and assume powers he doesn’t have.
I grew up in Ashanti Region during the reign of Osei Agyemang Prempeh ||. That was not how he spoke. This arrogance was one of the reasons the late Paramount Chiefs of Koforidua, Akyem Abuakwa and Akwapem Traditional Paramount Chiefs do not usually agree with him. He can go ahead and start projects with his own money in the Ashanti Region. Paramount Chiefs can suggest to the Government but not order and dictate to it. Mahama, let Asantehene know his limits. He should let us know what HIS PROJECTS are in Ashanti Region.
Anyway, he has visited many countries. When is he visiting Canada. He is still a WANTED MAN there by their legal system.

Kumasi was simply abandoned in any monumental project. Even common Kejetia market was abandoned and not completed. SUAME interchange was after thought and a ploy to win votes for NPP but Ashantis as always were clever and stayed out voting. Kumasi needs about 5 INTERCHANGES to ease the traffic there but NPP ignored their very survival stronghold for survival. In fact in future Ashanti region will break away from the Ghana union if the region continue to be sent its far share of Monumental projects in Ghana. Ashanti region was independent before Ghana was created .So how can one say Dr.kwame NKRUMAH was the founder of the whole Ghana. This assertion is A FALLACY to quote Mr. Kwaku Baako jnr. Effective and efficient management of projects dictates that project coordinators/managers are at close proximity to the project site. Unfortunately, what Ghanaian politicians have managed to do is to keep management of every activity in the country at arms length from their offices in Accra. That way they can steal from every project and thus adversely affecting the timely and qualitative delivery of projects. The over concerntration of control in Accra has held back the development of other parts of the country. For rapid development of all parts of the coubtry, we must decentralise management of developmental projects. To that extent, Otumfour's suggestion to the world bank official is timely. He is indeed a wise king. By the way, why can't he let his opinion on a matter affecting his region be known because he is a king? References have been made to the constitution to chastise him for expressing his opinion as Asantehene - please, where in the constitution are chiefs barred from expressing their opinions on matters of national development. It appears those of you who have jumped to chastise him do so out of malice and not based on reason. By the way, I think, generally, our chiefs ought to be more forthcoming with their opinions on matters of national concern. In any case, why they allowed the nation to adopt a constitution that effectively keeps them out of politics is somthing I still struggke to come to terms with. Surely, they are more responsible, trustworthy, and dependable than our sel-serving and corrupt politicuans..The chiefs live with the people and are therefore more accountable to the people. In contrast, every MP, once he/she gets to Accra settles down in Accra. In no time after arriving in parliament, they set-up homes in Accra and largely forget about the people who sent them there. You would be hard pressed to find 10 MPs or so who did not set up homes in Accra permanently. So, Otunfour deserves applause for speaking out on the matter. Indeed, let all chiefs in the country worth their salt let their voices be heard, especially, on matters bordering on the development of their communities. Shifting the discussion to whether or not Otumfour is a king is beside the point. On the subject at stake, Asantehene has hit the nail right on the head. Bravo! Otumfour!!

For Ghana to be properly developed, JDM or our governments must take conscious steps towards a complete devolution of power to the roots. The local people know their needs better and can better control and supervise development projects for their successful implementation.

The world bank can locate its program offices anywhere it wants, even in Timbuckto and the asantehene can't anything about it. If he wants to control how the world manages its project, he should fund the projects himself from all the gold money, he supposedly has and not take any money from the world bank, for beggars have no choice.

This is not the first time he has done this. Now that Rawlings is no more he is trying to do it again. During the Rawlings era he applied for a grant from the World Bank. Rawlings reacted swiftly to the deal with a protest note to the Bank and declaring the Bank's country Director (if I remember right his name is Mr. Carlson) "persona non granta" and Mr Carlsson was removed from Accra to Tunisia (if I am not mistaken).

According to the Rawlings Government, no individual can use the country's natural resources as a collateral to take a loan from an international institution without the consent of the Government.
Ghana is a republic and not a monarchial state. We don't refer to our country as "The Kingdom of Ghana" but as "Republic of Ghana". Neither do we have a "Supreme Leader" who presides over the President of the Republic. We don't have an "Ayatolla" here in Ghana.

Mahama should protest vigorously to the Bank (as Rawlings did) and let them understand that any grant to the Asantehene is undermining the security of the country. Ashanti region is not an autonomous entity in Ghana. As such, the Asantehene cannot go to the Bank to borrow or apply for a grant to develop his region without the approval of the Government. The mineral resources in the Ashanti region belongs to the people of Ghana and not to the Asantehene (even if he claims so). Hence, he cannot use the mineral resources as collateral to acquire a loan.

We need to have sanity in Ghana. We cannot have parallel Governments operating in the country. Ghanaians have voted for the NDC and John Mahama to lead the country. Hence no foreign government or international organization should be allowed to strike a deal with our traditional leaders without the approval of the Government.

The problem is how people manage the projects and how to reduce the bottlenecks in managing projects to make them be actualized.

He could not say a thing when Akuffo Addo was in power . When other chiefs criticized the Cathedral and other corrupt practices by Akuffo Addo and the NPP , the Asantehene was then deaf and blind. When the government neglected KNUST hospital, the Asantehene instead of confronting the government decided to solicit private funds to fix the hospital. Even the government held on to the imported materials for the hospital until taxes were paid on the supplies. He never said a word . Now that Mahama is in charge , he has asked the world back for a social contract to help fix Kumasi with everything headquartered in Kumasi . This is hypocrisy at its apogee. Is the Ashanti region not part of Ghana ? Does he have his own state within Ghana that he is the president? This must stop. All of sudden he does not trust politicians to fix Kumasi . Mahama did everything in the Ashanti region to please them but the region despises him . Which other Chief in Ghana is given government protection than the Asantehene?No this must stop . There is only one president in Ghana and the Asantehene is under the president.
